The century old Dhaka College established in 1841 has been playing active role in development of education and social and political culture of the people of this sub continent.Chemistry Department is its pride.Chemistry is one of the important faculties of the institution wherein students are dispensed with graduation and post graduation education.Moreover Chemistry is a compulsory subject in the higher secondary class. After independence of Bangladesh The Government of the people’s republic of Bangladesh in 1972 has been pleased to let this college open honours courses in several subjects. Chemistry is one of them.The graduation and Masters program go under National University from 1992-1993. At present honors and Masters program is conducted by Dhaka College as affiliated with Dhaka University . The department got a big shape of about 500 students under graduation and post graduation program each year. The department’s discipline is nicely shaped in three faculties: Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry with different laboratories and seminars library. At present 11 teachers, 1 demonstrators and 4 MLSS working in team spirit as if all are family members. They’re all earnestly sincere at their respective fields. Since 1972 under the dynamic leadership of 18 departmental chairpersons this department has enriched its name and fame. Students passing out from Chemistry Department are working with reputation in three respective fields within and outside the country.Besides glorious academic attainments the member of the teaching staff and the student of this Department regularly take part in co-curricula activities and they try to give a good account of themselves. Let us all hope that the Department of Chemistry of Dhaka College will continue to produce efficient and competent good citizens for our beloved country.
