Studying Life to Preserve Nature
The Department of Zoology at Dhaka College, established in 1971, is one of its oldest academic divisions. Initially, Zoology was only taught at the Intermediate level, but the Honors course was introduced in 1972. In 1985, the Master's program was launched after Dhaka University stopped direct admissions. The department now has 12 faculty members and around 1,000 students. Headed by Professor Sharifa Sultana, it offers a four-year Honors and one-year Master's program under Dhaka University. The department features a seminar library with 1,500 books, two laboratories, and well-equipped classrooms. The curriculum covers Animal Diversity, Genetics, Physiology, Microbiology, Parasitology, and Fisheries Science. The department provides a strong academic foundation, ensuring students excel in research and professional fields.
