The Department of Philosophy at Dhaka College dates back to the college’s founding. Initially, logic was a key subject at the intermediate level, widely chosen for its academic and linguistic benefits. When Dhaka College became a full-fledged degree institution under Dhaka University, Philosophy was introduced as a core discipline, offering insights into knowledge, ethics, and methodology. Under National University, the M.A. Preliminary course was launched in 1997, followed by the Honors program in 1999 with just four faculty members and 26 students. The department quickly gained recognition, attracting more students. Dedicated to intellectual growth, ethical values, and lifelong learning, it prepares students for diverse careers in government and non-government sectors. Philosophy, the love of wisdom, encourages critical inquiry into truth, reality, and human life.
