The Department of Economics at Dhaka College, under the Faculty of Social Sciences, offers both undergraduate (honors) and postgraduate programs. Located on the second floor, it began with the Preliminary Master’s Course in 1996, initiated by Surma Chowdhury. In 1997, Professor Md. Habibur Rahman Kabili became the first Head of the Department. The honors program was introduced in the 1998-1999 session, under Professor U.S.Z. Sultana Begum’s leadership. Over the years, the department has produced successful graduates, including BCS cadre officers, journalists, entrepreneurs, bankers, and industrialists. Esteemed faculty members, such as Professors Anisur Rahman, Lutfa Begum Chowdhury, and current Head Professor Parvin Sultana Haider, have guided the department. Today, it continues to be one of Dhaka College’s top divisions, committed to maintaining academic excellence and fostering student success.
