Advancing Scientific Knowledge Through Chemistry
The century-old Dhaka College, established in 1841, has played a vital role in education and societal development. The Chemistry Department is one of its most esteemed faculties, offering graduation and post-graduation programs. Chemistry has been a compulsory subject at the higher secondary level, and in 1972, the government introduced honors courses, later affiliated with Dhaka University in 1992-93. The department now educates around 500 students annually across Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry disciplines, supported by well-equipped laboratories and a seminar library. With 11 dedicated faculty members, a demonstrator, and supporting staff, the department has thrived under the leadership of 18 chairpersons. Graduates have achieved success in various fields at home and abroad. Alongside academics, students and faculty actively participate in co-curricular activities, fostering well-rounded development.
